Greg and I are talking about making a move. This is what 320K gets you in Austin these days.

In Ca, that's a million dollar home lol

Isn't that sad? And that isn't even the best deal. I can find other 4 bedroom homes with POOLS in the Austin hills near Lake Travis that run LESS than 300K. This state is simply going to implode.

That's more than a million dollar home in some areas. Not lol-ing.

You know what is really sad? All I want is a little plain 1960’s tract house stucco box that I can fix up. The simpler the house, the better. I don’t like all the gingerbread tack-ons. I can’t even afford that in a decent area that is within 40 miles of work.

Thousands a year in state taxes to subsidize illegals buying homes and we can't even buy one as honest-to-god American citizens.
That is f'd up.

Good thing inflation's 'under control' lol

Darn! I ive in New York. For that kind of money you don't get much in the Manhattan, but just five to ten miles away in Jersey, Queens or Long Island and you can buy a pretty decent house (real woodburning fireplace included). Add $50k more and you get a darn nice one. Before the real estate boom even those were 2/3 the price.
California is crazier than New York and that's hard to even think about.

Install solar panels and a composting toilet, and it will pay for itself in 10 years.

Put that house in Watts and it looks a lot like Fred Sanford's crib.
Down here at NASA (Houston in one of the nice areas of town), $300K will get you a house in one of the more exclusive subdivisions. I don't know about now but when I was younger, CEOs/execs of the NASA contractors and pro athletes lived in these neighborhoods.
If you can stand the unholy, searing heat in August, it's one of the most affordable areas to live. A close friend of mine from HS lives in Huntington Beach and she won't even visit between May and October.

Expensive homes=high property taxes=Arnold's budget a** saved=Arnold ignoring population boom caused by illegal immigrants.
Watch What You Get for the Money on hgtv. It's an obvious sales job for us Californians. Mighty tempting, too.

The place looks like a taco stand.
I dig the awning, tho.

Jeff,
If you leave, who am I going to hold down this asylum with?
BTW, what was up with that 15-degree drop in temperature with the span of 5 minutes???

Did I see a faded "Carniceria" on the front of that "house"?
Nothing says "welcome to my home" more than the appearance of an abandoned taco stand.

Should come to Charlotte. http://www.allentate.com/content/PropertyDetail.asp
This one's in an older section near downtown...gorgeous part of town...also here you get a lot more house for the money. I know, I know...it's not New York or California. Oh well. I've never lived in a prettier city.

Boo-effin'-hoo from Tokyo, all of you.
Posted by: Sean Kinsell at March 10, 2006 07:22 AM
Yes, come to Tokyo where you can live in a little honey comb type cell.

That reminds me of a postcard I saw with a picture of a toolshed and the caption "Affordable Housing in Santa Barbara." When's that bubble gonna burst exactly?

Don't hold your breath. We've got make room for about 12 million more people between now and 2020.
