'Doctor' Aisha Gaddafi, fresh from getting canned from
Saddam Hussein's defense team, told Human Rights Watch
she'd get right
on the problem of Libya's social rehabilitation facilities,
which bear an uncanny resemblance to prisons.
Ostensibly set up for 'protection' of woman 'vulnerable to engaging in moral misconduct,' HRW notes most of the women are undergoing rehabilitation against their will, some simply because they were raped & have stained the family honor. Libya's advanced system of social rehabilitation offers these progressive techniques:
Women & girls sleep in locked quarters & are not allowed to leave. Subject to long periods of solitary confinement, occasionally in handcuffs, for reasons like 'talking back.' Most forced to endure virginity examinations. Some are as young as 16, but authorities provide no education except religious instruction. Have no opportunity to contest their confinement & no legal representation
Happily, there's an exit strategy: "There is no way out unless a male relative takes custody of the woman or girl or she consents to marriage, often to a stranger who comes to the facility looking for a wife." The women are attractive as brides because "there are no [pre-marriage] expenses. It is not the same as [marrying] a woman with a family."
A Libyan official denied the report, saying it was based on "certain psychologically vulnerable women & a misunderstanding of Libyan laws."

Your recent link to Michael Totten's article about his vacation in Lybia, In the Land of the Brother Leader, was one of the most chilling pieces of journalism I've read in a long time. Libya is a wasteland in a wasteland.

Putting rape victims in prison? That is advanced. In most places in the Islamic world they'd be killed--by a male relative.

Rachel, Rachel, Rachel. Iran is surely the most advanced when it comes to properly punishing violated females. First of all, when the violated woman is put into protective custody, the police violate her again, so as to ensure her an eternity in hell. And then, she is hoist by her neck using heavy duty machinery, such as a crane. Are not the sons of Allah advanced in using heavy motorized vehicles for more than just blowing up embassies and night clubs?

I just read Eurabia over the weekend, and I was really primed to make a rant about how this is the sort of contemptible behavior you can expect from a profoundly dysfunctional culture. But after reading the comments from Mystery Meat and Jauhara al-Kafira, I realize how deeply these guys care about women. In fact, they respect womanhood in ways that an infidel like me will never really understand.
In fact, I feel like a judgmental, ethnocentric jerk. Which is pretty much what being a conservative is all about.
