I repeat my queery of 28 Jan re your thingy contra Sullivan. I know why I'm pissed off and stopped reading him. Truly curious about your reasons; you're a smartass, but you're no certainly no dope. Did he always annoy you (the gay-Catholic stuff?) or was it his 2004 unravelling over gay marriage, mel gibson, the snafu side of the Iraq war/occupation, and finally endorsing someone (whose name I can't remember now, thank God) for president in an election he can't even vote in because after living in America for 20 years and making his living from mouthing off about us 24/7, he's still not a US citizen. Gee, did I answer my own question?? No, really.

He was an impt voice post 9/11, when the effete literati were wallowing in Vietnam-era self-loathing. His gay marriage meltdown was embarrassing, & maybe based in nothing more than the fact he'd written a book about the subject & felt he had to defend it. But his demonizing Bush over the FMA was disingenuous, & as my friend Palooka says, the most odious thing about him is posturing himself as a military expert, a civil law expert, a you-name-it expert, on subjects he knows NOTHING about

Clear enough! Thanks.

And cleaned out his Paypal account!

Perhaps while he is off for nine momths he can do something about his consistently slovenly appearance on national television. Maybe a Queer Eye makeover type thing.

Perhaps he should have held a "Send Andrew on Sabbatical" fund-raiser before he cleaned his account. He might have made enough to take an entire year off.

Sully was the first blog I read faithfully, but after about two months I'd had enough: this was just as he was shifting from 9/11 to gay marriage (which does need to be hashed out, but not every waking moment of every day). When the needle hit "always boring," I moved on, and I've barely been back there since.

I'm just amazed that of the many posts I have written, Jeff would choose to link to the one with the worst grammar, syntax, and flow. I apologize for the violence I have done to the English language.

Also, Essem's first comment is right on.

Okay, fair enough.
